What is A2 Key for?

The A2 Key (KET) proves that you can confidently understand and use English in simple everyday situations. As an entry-level certificate, it is particularly suitable for school pupils and as a first proof on the way to B1 Preliminary and beyond.

Exam parts & duration

Three exam parts

Reading & Writing · 1 hr

7 parts: multiple choice, matching, gap-fill, a short email and a picture story.

Listening · 30 min

Short conversations & announcements, including 6 min transfer time.

Speaking · 8–15 min

Interview + discussion, with 1–2 candidates and 2 examiners.

Total duration approx. 1 hr 40 min – short breaks between the parts are possible.

Registration in 6 steps

How registration works

1Choose a date – pick a suitable date at the test centre below.
2Register online – complete the registration form in full.
3Pay the fee – 165 € securely by credit card/bank transfer.
4Receive confirmation – all the details for the exam day by email.
5Exam day – arrive in good time with valid ID.
6Results – usually within 10–14 days by email.
Assessment

A2 Key & the Cambridge English Scale

A2 Key is assessed on the Cambridge English Scale. Depending on the score achieved, a certificate is issued at B1, A2 or A1:

FAQ

Is the digital A2 Key exam equivalent to the paper-based one?

Yes. Content, assessment and recognition are identical – the only difference is the format (computer). Digital results are usually available sooner.

How quickly will I receive my results?

Usually within 10–14 days. We will inform you by email as soon as the results are available.

Who is A2 Key suitable for?

For beginners and school pupils – as a first recognised Cambridge qualification and a solid basis for higher Cambridge certificates.

Can I use the certificate for school or training?
